## Buying across islands

Inter-island barge freight through Young Brothers runs roughly $300-500 per car,
which is usually less than the price difference between islands. Oahu carries about
three times the inventory of any neighbour island, so it is worth searching there
even if you live on Maui, Kauai or Hawaii Island.

## Caveats worth repeating to a buyer

- Prices are the dealer's advertised asking price. They exclude tax, registration
  and dealer fees, and they are not offers.
- Dealer groups list the same car on several of their own websites. We collapse
  those by VIN, so one vehicle can show several locations.
- Salt air makes undercarriage rust a real inspection item on older Hawaii cars.
